​Good evening. Welcome to our Science for Fun Program. This week we've received a lot of questions asking about life on the moon. We've talked to some experts and this is what we've found out. There is no water or air on the moon. It is all silent because there is no air. Of course there will be no music, no sounds. There are no rivers and no lakes. At night it is very cold. The temperature goes down to 151⁰C below zero. But during the day the temperature rises to 100⁰C above zero.

There are great round holes on the moon. They look like big lakes. They are called craters. There are more than 30,000 craters on the moon. There are also high mountains. The highest mountains on the moon are about 26,000 feet or 8,000 meters high.

And here is something very interesting to know: on the moon you weigh one sixth of what you weigh on earth. If you weigh 50 kilos, on the moon you will weigh only a little more than 8 kilos. You will be able to jump very high, even higher than an Olympic Champion. You can take very long steps as well. And ... Maybe you won't sleep very well because one day on the moon lasts for two weeks.

Và ở đây có rất nhiều điều thú vị để biết: trên mặt trăng bạn nặng bằng 1/6 lần cân nặng của mình ở trái đất. Nếu như bạn cân nặng 50kg, trên mặt trăng bạn sẽ nặng khoảng hơn 8kg. Bạn sẽ có khả năng nhảy rất cao, có thể cao hơn nhà vô địch Olympic nữa.

  Long ago a lot of people thought the moon was God. Other people thought it was just a light in the sky. And others thought it was a big ball cheese!

  The telescopes were made. And men saw that the moon was really another world. They wondered what it was like. They dreamed of going there.

  On July 20th, 1969, that dream came true. Two American men landed on the moon. Their names were Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin. The first thing the men found was that the moon is covered with dust. The dust is so thick that the men left footprints where they walked. Those were the first marks a living thing had ever made on the moon. And they could stay there for years and years. There is no wind or rain to wipe them off.

  The two men walked on the moo for hours. They picked up rocks to bring back to earth for study. They dug up dirt to bring back. They set up machines to find out things people wanted to know. Then they climbed back into their moon landing craft.

  Next day the landing craft roared as the men took off the moon. They joined Michael Collins in the spaceship that wait for them above the moon. Then they were off on their long trip back to earth.

  Behind them they left the plains and tall mountains of the moon. They left the machines they had set up.

  And they left footprints that may last forever.
