Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D to indicate to each of the questions from 46 to 50.
We get great pleasure from reading. The more advanced a man is the greater delight he will find in reading. The ordinary man may think that subjects like philosophy or science are very difficult and that if philosophers and scientists read these subjects, it is not for pleasure.
But this is not true. The mathematician finds the same pleasure in his mathematics as the school boy in an adventure story. For both, it is a play of the imagination, a mental recreation and exercise. The pleasure derived from this activity is common to all kinds of reading. But different types of books give us different types of pleasure. First in order of popularity is novel-reading. Novels contain pictures of imaginary people in imaginary situations, and give us an opportunity of escaping into a new world very much like our world and yet different from it. Here we seem to live a new life, and the experience of this new life gives us a thrill of pleasure. Next in order of popularity are travel books, biographies and memoirs. These tell us tales of places we have not seen and of great men in whom we are interested.
Some of these books are as wonderful as novels, and they have an added value that they are true. Such books give us knowledge, and we also find immense pleasure in knowing details of lands we have not seen and of great men we have only heard of. Reading is one of the greatest enjoyments of life. To book-lovers, nothing is more fascinating than a favorite book. And, the ordinary educated man who is interested and absorbed in his daily occupation wants to occasionally escape from his drudgery into the wonderland of books for recreation and refreshment.

Football
The idea of two teams pushing backwards or forwards to each other began in ancient Egypt as a ceremony celebrating good harvests. The Roman army of Julius Caesar brought it to Britain, where people quickly began to play it. Today’s association football, or soccer, comes directly from “association”, which students called “Assoc”.
The first description of English football appeared in 1775 in London. Rules of those days were not as strict as they are today, and games frequently ended in fights with broken arms and legs and even deaths. The number of players could exceed 500 and a game could last a day.
The birth of modern football took place in London in October 1863 when the football Association was formed, and in the following few years most of the rules as we know them were adopted. Today, big football games in London are played at Wembley Stadium, few miles from the centre of London.

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C or D to indicate the correct answer to each of the questions.
In the 1960s, it took pop and rock groups one or two days to record their songs. Nowadays, it can take months and months. Many rock groups begin by recording only one instrument, for example, the voice. Then they record other instruments- electric piano, synthesizer, guitars, drums and so on.
Next, they might use a computer to add special effects. Finally, they ‘mix’ all the instruments until they get the sound that they want. This means that a CD or cassette will always sound very different from a live concert.
Music engineers have developed a new computer programme that will change the future of music. A computer can analyse a singer’s voice. Then if you give the computer the lyrics and music of a song, the computer can ‘sing’ it in that voice. This means that a singer only needs to record one song and the computer can then sing other songs in the singer’s own voice. Singers can sing new songs many years after they have died.
Most of us listen to music for pleasure, but for the record companies, music is a product, the same as soap powder. When a record company finds a new group (or ‘band’), they first try to develop the band’s ‘profile’. They will try to create an ‘image’ for the band that they think will attract young people. Instead of allowing the band’s full artistic freedom, they will often tell the band what they should wear, what they should say and how they should sing and play.
In recent year, many rock groups have started their own record companies because they say that the big companies are too commercial.
17. Today, to record songs, it takes __________.
A. longer than it used to do
B. shorter than it used to do
C. only one or two days
D. the same amount of time as the 1960s
18. Today’s record procedure results in ________.
A. different sounds of recorded songs and live- performed songs.
B. the mixture between CDs and live concert
C. some special effects on songs
D. differences invoices and instruments played
19. Which of the following is NOT true about the new computer programme?
A. It is predicted to change the music future.
B. It can imitate singers’ voice.
C. It can sing only one recorded song of the singer.
D. The singer does not necessarily present to really sing.
