Động đất: 90% các trận động đất xảy ra xung quanh vành đai Thái Bình Dương, nơi được xem như là "Vành đai lửa". Năm 1995, một trận động đất lớn đã xảy ra ở thành phố Kobe, Nhật Bản. Nhiều người đã bị thiệt mạng khi nhiều nhà cửa, cao ốc và các đường cao tốc đổ sập xuống.
Sóng thần: Sóng thần là kết quả của sự thay đổi đột ngột của dòng chuyển động nước trên trái đất. Vào thập niên 1960, một đợt sóng thần đã đổ ập vào vùng Anchorage, Alaska. Cơn sóng thần này đã di chuyển Alaska tới tận California!
Bão nhiệt đới: Khi một cơn bão nhiệt đới đạt tới tốc độ 120 km mỗi giờ, thì ở Bắc và Nam Mỹ nó được gọi là cơn lốc biển, ở Úc là cơn lốc xoáy, và ở châu Á gọi là cơn bão. Từ "typhoon" bắt nguồn từ tiếng Trung, tai có nghĩa là "lớn" và feng có nghĩa là "gió", vì thế từ "typhoon" có nghĩa là "gió lớn".
Núi lửa: Thường thì chúng ta có thể dự đoán được khi nào một núi lửa sẽ phun trào. Ngọn Pinatubo, một ngọn núi lửa ở quần đảo Philippines, đã phun trào vào năm 1991. Đó là sự phun trào lớn nhất trong hơn 50 năm qua. Hàng trăm người đã thiệt mạng, nhưng hàng ngàn người đã được cứu sống bởi vì các nhà khoa học đã cảnh báo họ về vụ phun trào này.
Lốc xoáy: Lốc xoáy là những cơn bão hình phễu di chuyển trên mặt đất dưới những tia sớm chớp. Chúng có thể cuốn theo bất kỳ thứ gì nằm trên đường đi của chúng. Ở Ý năm 1981, một cơn lốc xoáy đã nâng bổng một đứa bé đang ngủ trong nôi và đặt nó trở lại mặt đất an toàn ở cách đó 100 mét!
