  • My family is going to visit my grandparents in Kien Giang in next summer. I’m looking forward to seeing them and their beautiful house that I love so much. That’s an ancient small French villa with a chimney and many old arc windows. The house is light blue that is my favourite colour. There are two floors and a terrace in the house. A living room and a kitchen are in the first floor. My grandfather put a sofa made from wood, an out-dated telvevision and a small aquarium with many colorful schools of fish. Behind the living room is the kitchen. The stuffs in the kitchen are quite old, exception gas stove and refrigerator. My grandmother told me that she had a lot of experiences in this kitchen because she almost spent all of her life to do household chorces and cooking. Next to the kitchen is a cute henhouse where grandmom often takes eggs to bake a best cake ever. There are 3 bedrooms and a workship room where is kept clean all the time in the second floor. The bedroom is very simple and corny. I have to admit that the bedroom looks very musky. When I was a kid, I always thought of scary things would happen to me if I fell asleep in a bedroom like that. And nothing happened to me, of course, that’s just my imagination. The last part of the house is the terrace which is my grandfather’s world. He has many strange beautiful birds whose names are difficult to remember, too. He lets the birds land in the trees which he planted a long time ago. Every morning, my grandparents do exercises and enjoy the fresh air there together. To everyone, that house may be very normal but to me that is the most perfect house in the world.

  • I’m a pair of black hightop laced converse and I have a story to tell.

My life started out at the converse company, where I was squeezed, wet, dried, and finally boxed up. The box was stuffy and the smells from the new production were intoxicating, clearly my life wasn’t starting out too great. My first owner had rough feet that dug into my soul! He/she never wore socks, so every time my owner finished wearing me I felt free, because it had been so stuffy and that persons feet stunk! The second day I acquired all this knowledge. The first day of my journey I was exuberant to leave the store behind and start my own journey that I had seen so many others start, though I was sad to leave my companions behind, me and the other converse always had a great time playing hide and seek when the store owners left! Anyways on my third day I finally got the chance to meet the mother of this young child who was taking care of me. Or at least I think its a child, because i’m a size 1 in youth. Anyways the mother was a very tall lady and for the first time I could see the child- because I was always facing backwards. She was as I predicted- a child with the cutest smile and had two pigtails tied in her curly blonde hair. Her dress was pink with white polka dots and it had small flowers lining the waist line and cute little ruffles around her neck. The mother was almost identical to her daughter – just older, she too had blonde hair, but it was tied back in a pony tail and she wore glasses atop her aged face. She looked like she was in her 30-40’s and she wore a black blazer with a black pencil skirt. She wore white flats and looked as if she just came from work. I supposed my family wasn’t too bad, but when the feet came back that neutral feeling diminished. The father had picked me up from the store, but I had not seen him, because the box was closed. The father was on some business trip so I never saw him.

By now I had completely lost track of the day, the days were know predictable, my girl- who I now know as August just turned 7 a couple days ago and was now going to school. The schedule was: slip on shoes, eat breakfast, ride in mother’s car to school, learn about math, recess, learn about English, lunch, and finally learn about Science, read a book, and go home. The schedule was fairly simple and every 5 days the schedule changes and I often don’t get put on. I’m beginning to enjoy August, she’s fun and playful and likes to play hopscotch, I’ve even learned some math from the teaching at school- 5+1=… Um… 7! No, wait 6! I have gotten used to the smell of her feet and she has started to wear socks! But its starting to feel claustrophobic, there is no more space for me to breathe inside my shoe and August’s feet are always squirming. I don’t know what this means, but it can’t be good. Iv’e seen this happen before… but August would never give me up. Would she?

Enough thinking about dark thoughts today a fresh new day and were going to school! But thats not what happened… it started out fine, August slipped into me, but her feet were squirming more than usual, and the other day I say a pair of brand new hightop converse on her desk, but they were pink… that’s her favorite color! Subsequently we went to school, I was t nervous to gather knowledge. By the end of the day I felt refreshed, it had taken all 7 and a half hours of school, but I had calmed myself down. The reassurance of not being given away before school made it easier for me to calm myself. Turns out I was right all along, once August came home from school she slipped out of me and her mother took me to some big white van that held multiple boxes and bags with a big sign on the side of the truck that read D…ON…A…T…ION… Donation! I didn’t know what that meant, but all I knew it meant was bad news. I was shoved into a bag with other shoes and knickknacks that I had seen littered around the house. The opening sealed in the bag and I felt a big thump and my heart thumped, knowing that my life would never be the same again.

The minute the bag was opened I could finally breathe. The fresh air smelled wonderful after breathing in that stuffy air for, what seemed like, days. The bright light seemed uncanny after being trapped in that dark bag, where I could barely see the bright white laces on me. Nonetheless, it was a welcoming sight, from what I could see there were multiple workers with plaid overalls on sweating from head-to-toe…I hoped they weren’t my owners. The sight or children rounding the corner was welcoming and I couldn’t be gladder, I tried to find August, though she was nowhere to be found! After the giddy happiness I had felt from being let out of that bag I was now feeling depressed and sad for my lost owner and lonely. I had never really felt lonely before, although with August I never had anyone to talk to it was always a welcoming sight to see her and as she stepped in me I would always feel safe from smelling the familiar aromas and feeling the familiar feet. I had noticed through time that her left foot was slightly bigger than her right. But know without August I felt lonely and unsafe. For the first time I noticed that an assortment of other toys and shoes were littered on the floor around me, somehow arranged in piles… I was in the shoes pile, there was also a pile of toys, clothes, furniture etc. The children were now dashing down the halfway and scooping up as much as they could carry. In the chaos- at one point I found myself clutched in the tight grip of a child, his grip was deadly and I felt very claustrophobic and I was hyperventilating from the loss of air and the sudden traumatic event. Then I was tossed onto the floor… I hoped I would not be picked up by another child. I wanted to go back to August.

Finally through the clutter I was picked up by a gentle child with blonde hair just like August, but her hair was down and she dress a blue flowy dress, which was tucked under multiple layers or coats. Through she was bundled up and her face was slightly dirty, there was a certain beauty to her appearance. I decided that I would like her, but still miss August. This girl was much like August, she liked wearing dresses, she wore socks with her shoes, her feet smelled of dirty laundry mixed with pretzels- sort of a salty smell, but I got used to the smell quicker, because I was used to bad smelling feet from August. The girl too went to school, but she walked to her school through a dirt road that got mud on the edge of me on the white part with a black streak. I didn’t really mind, I was pretty battered up anyways. Though I never saw her mother or any of the mother’s of the girls she played with and I was beginning to figure out what donation meant…

My new girl- who I now know as Maria likes school. Every time she got a good grade she would tap her feet wildly on the floor jiggling me up and down until I felt like I was on the verge of throwing up, but when she got a bad grade her feet would always tuck immediately under the chair as she sat forward to inspect her grade. She often tapped her feet, because she often received good grades. After school she would always talk to this girl named Sarah who lived with Maria and a couple other girls and would walk home with her. Maria lived in some place very crowded that seemed like school, but wasn’t. Multiple children lived in this place, but only some slept in a room together. From the other girls talking iv’e acquired the knowledge that I was now living in an Adoption Center for Children. The people seemed friendly, but the cooks sometimes spilled globs of food on me that just added to the smell of rotten fish that I was now used to, so I didn’t mind.

This is basically how my life went, I was given to some child who wore me, than passed onto another child and another after that etc. Iv’e learned to not get too attached to a child, because they would most likely be replaced with another child who needed me. I have journeyed far and wide and to this place people call Ethiopia, it was hot there. Finally My journey ended with a girl named Quinn who lived in the desert and used what was left of me as sandals. She had fallen into the sand and I was lost forever, closing my eyes for the last time.

I have multiple eyes, my eyes are the circles framed with metal that shoe laces are strung through.
