1.1. Định nghĩa

Câu điều kiện loại 0 là câu dùng để diễn tả một sự thật, chân lý, hoặc thói quen sẽ xảy ra khi điều kiện nói tới xảy ra trước.

1.2. Công thức

Câu điều kiện loại 0 hoặc câu điều kiện nói chung thường sẽ có 2 mệnh đề. Một mệnh đề mô tả điều kiện "nếu", mệnh đề còn lại là mệnh đề chính "thì".

 

Mệnh đề điều kiện	Mệnh đề chính

If + thì hiện tại đơn	S + thì hiện tại đơn

*Lưu ý:

• Cả 2 mệnh đề của câu điều kiện loại 0 đều được chia ở thì hiện tại đơn.
• Mệnh đề điều kiện (mệnh đề if) có thể đứng ở cả 2 vế đầu hoặc vế sau của câu câu.

1.3. Cách dùng

Dùng để yêu cầu, nhờ vả, giúp đỡ hoặc nhắn nhủ một điều gì đó.

Ví dụ: If you can play UNO, teach me how to play. (Nếu bạn có thể chơi UNO, hãy dạy tôi cách chơi.)

Dùng để diễn tả một thói quen, hành động hoặc sự việc xảy ra thường xuyên.

Ví dụ: I usually cycle on weekends if the weather is good. (Tôi thường đạp xe vào cuối tuần nếu thời tiết tốt.)

*Lưu ý: Bạn có thể thay "if" thành "when" để diễn tả một câu điều kiện có ý nghĩa không đổi. (Ví dụ: When it rains, I usually don't leave the house. => Khi trời mưa, tôi thường không ra khỏi nhà.)

Lưu ý

Vài điều cần lưu ý khi sử dụng loại câu này.

• Có thể thay thể If bằng When / Whenever (Khi / Bất cứ khi nào) trong câu điều kiện loại 0.

Ví dụ: When I am busy, I go out for dinner. (Khi tôi bận thì tôi ra ngoài ăn tối)

Ví dụ: Emma listens to music whenever she has free time. (Emma nghe nhạc bất cứ khi nào cô ấy có thời gian rảnh)

• Mệnh đề If và mệnh đề chính có thể thay đổi vị trí cho nhau mà ý nghĩa câu không thay đổi.

Ví dụ: It burns quickly if you put a paper on fire. (Nó cháy rất nhanh nếu bạn đặt tờ giấy vào lửa)
