SO SÁNH KÉP TRONG TIẾNG ANH

So sánh kép (Double Comparison) là dạng cấu trúc câu dùng để nói về việc một người hay vật có sự thay đổi, và điều này dẫn đến một tác động song song tới người hay vật khác.

Có hai dạng so sánh kép thông dụng:

Càng…càng: The more … the more

Càng ngày càng: More and more

Cấu trúc câu này thể hiện mối tương quan lẫn nhau về nguyên nhân – kết quả hay nói về sự tăng hay giảm của hiện tượng, sự vật.

Ví dụ:

• The more Linda eats, the fatter she is. (Linda càng ăn nhiều, cô ấy càng mập)

Ví dụ trên đã diễn tả được việc ăn uống của Linda (người được đề cập đến). Nguyên nhân là “ăn nhiều” – kết quả là “càng béo”.

Cấu trúc

Tính từ ngắn-er và tính từ ngắn-er (short adjective-er and short adjective-er)

More and more + tính từ dài (more and more + long adjective)

Ví dụ:

• The older she got, the quieter she became. (Càng lớn tuổi, cô ấy càng trở nên trầm lặng hơn)

• My mother is more and more beautiful. (Mẹ tôi càng ngày càng đẹp)

The comparative … the comparative …(càng… thì càng…)

Cấu trúc này được sử dụng khi hai sự vật hoặc sự việc thay đổi cùng cấp độ thì dùng hình thức so sánh hơn ở cả hai mệnh đề để diễn

tả điều này.

Cấu trúc

the + tính từ/trạng từ ngắn-er + S + V, the + tính từ/trạng từ ngắn-er + S + V

the more + tính từ/trạng từ dài + S + V, the more + tính từ/trạng từ dài + S + V

the + tính từ/trạng từ ngắn-er + S + V, the more + tính từ/trạng từ dài + S + V

the more + tính từ/trạng từ dài + S + V, the + tính từ/trạng từ ngắn-er + S + V

Ví dụ:

• The older she got, the quieter she became. (Càng lớn tuổi cô ấy càng trở nên trầm lặng hơn)

• The more sensitive your skin is, the more dangerous it is. (Da bạn càng nhạy cảm càng nguy hiểm)

• The faster the motobike is, the more dangerous it is to drive. (Xe máy chạy càng nhanh càng nguy hiểm)

• The more careful a student is, the fewer mistakes she makes. (Học sinh càng cẩn thận thì càng ít mắc lỗi)

So sánh của danh từ

The more + N + S + V, The more + N + S + V…

Ví dụ:

• The more films you watch, the more knowledge you can get. (Bạn càng xem nhiều phim, bạn càng có thể nhận được nhiều kiến thức)

So sánh của động từ

The more + S + V , The more + S + V…

Ví dụ:

• The colder the weather is, the better I like it. (Thời tiết càng lạnh, tôi càng thích điều đó)

Ngoài ra, còn một vài tính từ ngắn khác được sử dụng tương tự như tính từ dài, ví dụ: quite, narrow, handsome, wicked, pleasant, cruel, stupid, tired, hollow, simple, gentle, shallow, common, polite,…
