CẤU TRÚC IN ORDER TO VÀ SO AS TO TRONG TIẾNG ANH
1. Lý thuyết
1.1. In order to/ So as to là gì?
- Cấu trúc in order to và so as to đều có nghĩa là “để, để mà”
Cấu trúc này được dùng trong câu nhằm thể hiện mục đích của hành động được nhắc đến ngay trước đó.
Ví dụ:
Trang sometimes goes to bed very late in order to complete her total assignment.
(Trang thỉnh thoảng ngủ rất muộn để hoàn thành tất cả các bài tập)
=> Ở trường hợp này, việc “ngủ muộn” có mục đích là để “hoàn thành tất cả bài tập”. Hay có thể nói đây là giải thích cho việc “ngủ muộn” để “hoàn thành tất cả bài tập”. Do đó, ta dùng in order to để diễn tả hoặc có thể thay thế bằng so as to cũng được.
- Cấu trúc dùng để nối 2 câu chỉ mục đích với nhau.
Ví dụ:
Lisa worked hard. She wanted her result to improve better.
(Lisa đã làm việc chăm chỉ. Cô ấy muốn kết quả của mình được cải thiện tốt hơn)
=> Dùng với cấu trúc in order to:
Lisa worked hard in order for her result to improve better.
(Lisa làm việc chăm chỉ để kết quả của mình được cải thiện tốt hơn)
1.2. Cách dùng In order to/ So as to trong tiếng Anh
- Khi mục đích của hành động hướng tới chính chủ thể của hành động được nêu ở phía trước, ta dùng cấu trúc sau
S + V + in order to/so as to + (for somebody) + to Vinf…
Ví dụ:
- Justin spent all money in order for his parents to buy a new apartment.
(Justin đã dành toàn bộ tiền để cho bố mẹ của anh ấy mua một căn hộ mới)
- Mary wishes she will go to Belgium so as to visit her boy friend.
(Mary ước cô ấy sẽ đi Bỉ để thăm bạn trai của mình)
- Khi mục đích hành động hướng tới đối tượng khác, ta dùng cấu trúc
S + V + in order/so as + (not) + TO + (for somebody) + to Vinf…
Ví dụ:
- Rihana arrived her company early in order not to be late for the meeting.
(Rihana đến công ty từ sớm để không bị muộn buổi họp)
- Tonny finished his homework fast so as not to miss interesting film.
(Tonny hoàn thành xong bài tập về nhà nhanh chóng để không bỏ lỡ bộ phim thú vị)
- Adam works hard so as for his children to have a better life.
(Adam làm việc chăm chỉ để các con anh ta có một cuộc sống tốt hơn.)
* Một vài lưu ý về cấu trúc In order to và So as to trong tiếng Anh
Cấu trúc in order to và so as to chỉ được dùng để nối 2 câu chỉ mục đích khi:
- Cấu trúc in order to/ so as to chỉ áp dụng được khi 2 câu cùng một chủ ngữ.
- Bỏ chủ ngữ câu sau, bỏ các chữ want, like, hope…giữ lại từ động từ sau nó.
Ví dụ:
- Lien studies very hard. She hopes to pass this test.
(Liên học rất chăm chỉ. Cô ấy hi vọng vượt qua bài kiểm tra này).
➔ Lien studies very hard in order to pass this test.
(Liên học rất chăm chỉ để vượt qua bài kiểm tra này)
- Marie wears warm clothes in winter. She doesn’t want to have a cold.
(Marie mặc ấm vào mùa đông. Cô ấy không muốn bị cảm lạnh).
➔ Marie wears warm clothes in winter so as not to have a cold.
(Marie mặc ấm vào mùa đông để không bị cảm lạnh.)
1.3. Một số cấu trúc tương đương trong tiếng Anh
a. Cấu trúc To + V
Ví dụ:
- We have taken our camera in order to take some photos.
= We have taken our camera to take some photos.
(Chúng tôi đã mang theo máy ảnh để chụp vài bức ảnh)
- I often play football in the morning with my friends so as to stay healthy.
= I often play footbal in the morning with my friends to stay healthy.
(Tôi thường chơi cờ vào mỗi sáng để giữ cơ thể khỏe mạnh.)
Chú ý: không dùng not + to V thay thế cho in order/ so as + not to V.
b. Cấu trúc So that
S + V + so that S + can/could/will/would (not) + V.
Ví dụ:
- Tommy worked really hard in order to get better result.
= Tommy worked really hard so that he got better result.
(Tommy đã làm việc rất chăm chỉ để đạt được kết quả tốt hơn)
c. Cấu trúc with a view to V-ing: Để có …
Cấu trúc: With a view to V-ing, S + V …
Ví dụ:
- I have to practice playing the guitar so much to have a good performance tomorrow.
➔ With a view to having a good performance tomorrow, I have to practice playing the guitar so much.
(Để có buổi trình diễn tốt vào ngày mai, tôi phải tập đánh ghi ta rất nhiều.)
- Mr.Linda is decorating his house so as to sell it at a higher price.
➔ With a view to selling the house at a higher price, Mr.Linda is decorating it.
(Để có thể bán ngôi nhà ở mức giá cao hơn, ông Linda đang trang trí lại nó.)
d. Cấu trúc with an aim of V-ing: để …
Cấu trúc: With an aim of V-ing, S + V …
Ví dụ:
- I found a new apartment near Ho Guom to work conveniently.
➔ With an aim of working conveniently, I found a new apartment near Ho Guom.
(Để làm việc thuận tiện, tôi đã tìm một căn hộ mới gần Hồ Gươm.)
- I’ve collected money in order to buy a new laptop.
➔ With an aim of buying a new laptop, I’ve collected money.
(Với mục đích mua máy tính mới, tôi đang tiết kiệm tiền.)
