PHÂN BIỆT CẤU TRÚC SO THAT VÀ SUCH THAT

So..that và such..that đều được dùng để nói giải thích kết quả, ý kiến về điều gì đó đã được đề cập.

Trong câu, “so-such” dùng nói nguyên nhân tạo nên “that” kết quả.

Tương tự ý nghĩa nhưng cách dùng của chúng lại khác nhau.

Cấu trúc So that có nghĩa quá đến nỗi... mà. Kiểu chỉ nguyên nhân, kết quả và hướng tới khen ngợi hơn, cảm thán rằng.

Ví dụ: The meteor storm was so beautiful (Adj) that we watched it all night.

"So" được đặt trước một bổ ngữ (tính từ hoặc trạng từ), thường mang hàm ý nhấn mạnh cho từ đó. "So" bình thường có thể dùng cho một mệnh đề hoặc kết hợp mệnh đề that cũng như mệnh đề khác.

Công thức mệnh đề:

So + adv/adj , that + clause.

Cụ thể sẽ phân chia công thức đi với:

• Tính từ: 

S + be + so + adj + that + S ​+ V

The meteor storm was so beautiful, that we watched it all night.

Nếu có động từ chỉ tri giác (chỉ cảm giác cảm nhận như fell, seem…” thì ta có công thức như sau:

S + động từ chỉ tri giác + so + adj + that + S + V

• Trạng từ

Công thức sử dụng cho trạng từ trong trường hợp đó là động từ thường, ta sẽ có câu đầy đủ:

S + V(thường) + so + adv + that + S + V

The meteor storm passed so quickly (Adv) that it went by in one week.

• Công thức có danh từ đếm được số nhiều và không đếm được

S + V + so + many/few/much/little + N + that + S + V

(trong đó many/few dùng cho danh từ đếm được số nhiều, much/little dùng cho danh từ không đếm được)

Ví dụ:

The child had so many toys that he could not decide which to play

There was so little food that many people died of hunger.

• Đối với danh từ đếm được số ít thì sẽ là:

S + V + so + adj + a + noun (đếm được số ít) + that + S + V

Đây là một cấu trúc nâng cao, tuy không ít dùng nhưng sẽ có thể vẫn xuất hiện ở một số đề thi khác nhau, đặc biệt là thi học sinh giỏi.

Công thức là: S + V + such + (a/an) + adj + N + that + S + V

Ví dụ:

- It was such a beautiful meteor storm that we watched it all night.

- It was such a quick meteor storm that it passed by in one week.

- It was such an amazing sight that we'll never forget it.

Từ công thức bạn có thể thấy, nếu dùng such...that sẽ đi kèm với adj + n

Vì có ý nghĩa tương tự nhau nên bạn có thể viết lại câu với so..that và such...that.

Cấu trúc:

So + Tính từ/ Trạng từ + Trợ động từ + Danh từ + that + Mệnh đề

Such + Mạo từ + Tính từ + Danh từ + that + Mệnh đề

Ví dụ:

- The watch was so costly that I could not afford it

=> So costly was the watch that I could not afford it.

-  It was such a beautiful day that we could not just stay inside the house

=> Such a beautiful day it was that we could not just stay inside the house.

7. The party was ... well organized that everybody had a great time.

8. We had ... long and tiring trip that we just wanted to go home.

9. He has ...  beautiful voice that he should try to become a professional singer.

5.3. Exercise 3. Hoàn thành đoạn văn với so / such

Finland is (1)_______ a nice place to go on winter holidays. The winter there is (2)_______ mild and welcoming! You can do snowboarding, skating, skiing or any other winter sport, there are (3)_______ many possibilities.
